water blasphemy cartoon
This year the Freethinker celebrates 125 years of continuous publication.

Despite the fact that its founder and editor was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment for ‘blasphemy’ in 1883, the publication did not miss an issue, and has continued its war on superstition as robustly as it ever did under Foote’s editorship.

Curiously, it was not so much the written attacks on Christianity that roused the ire of the religious - it was a series of sacrilegious cartoons.

Oddly, none of these has ever been posted on the internet, but in the light of the current controversy over the Danish cartoons of Mohammed, we have decided to reproduce ten of the cartoons. Click on this Blasphemous Cartoons link .

  1. Well,U say this is the 1st time u people r posting the cartoons of Muhammad(peace be upon him).So wats the point reprinting these controvertial cartoons except getting cheap attention. Try respecting things which r respectable for others(1.2 billion people in this case); coz u people urself dont like it if ur mother’s pics are posted repeatedly on every site while her neighbour sucking her vagina.

  2. Get your facts right Taimoor. The cartoons you are complaining about are clearly not of Mohammed. They are of Jesus.
