It is arguable that children of Scout age do not have the intellectual capacity to justify any believe in God. What is of more significance surely, is that a child is interested in the spiritual and religious journey. And in fact, as Buddists and others who do not believe in God are admitted to Scout groups, perhaps this is recognised.
Of all the groups who engage in this journey, the atheists I have met are all mentally engaged far more than religious folk. So would Keith be prepared to submit a change to the Scout hierarchy adding the words "the search for" in the Promise? Scouts believe in the search for God?
