YESTERDAY was the third anniversary of the London bombings which resulted in the death of 52 commuters at the hands of a group of murderous Islamic suicide bombers.

But while we paused to reflect on this senseless act of terrorism, the family of one of the bombers – 22-year-old Shehzad Tanweer –gathered at his grave in Pakistan to:

Celebrate his life and remember him as a martyr.

Tanweer, along with Mohammad Sidique Khan, 30, Hasib Hussain, 18, and 19-year-old Jermaine Lindsay, died when they detonated rucksack bombs on three crowded Tube trains and a No 30 bus.

According to the Daily Mail, Tanweer’s uncle, 42-year-old property developer Tahir Pervez, organised the celebration in which verses of the Koran were read out then curry and rice distributed at his home in Samundari.

Said one villager who asked not be named:

The party is kept very secret from people outside the village but everyone knows it happens every year. People are invited to join in blessing Shehzad Tanweer’s soul by reading verses from the Koran and they call on us to remember Shehzad as a shahid (martyr).

The gathering has twice been held in secret - yards from Tanweer’s grave which is fiercely protected from outsiders. It is the largest in the cemetery of the village called Chak 477 and is opposite the mosque.

Andrew Dismore, MP for Hendon said:

It is absolutely appalling that his family are choosing to mark the date in this way. What are the Pakistan government doing about this? Five people from five different ethnic and religious groups died from my constituency on July 7, 2005 and this is a damning insult to their memory and their family members.

Most Muslims would be absolutely horrified, as I am, that Shehzad Tanweer is being remembered by some people as a martyr.

Most Muslims, Mr Dismore? I wouldn’t be too sure about that!

  1. Tomahawk cruise missile: a perfect present for Shehzad Tanweer martyrdom party. But as much as this “party” is spitting in the faces of 7/7 victims and their families, British government is partly responsible. The Brits had no business giving the body to the family. It should have been ground up and used as dog food.

  2. Muslims against Sharia is quite correct. The body should never have been allowed out of the country. And before anyone starts bleating on about respect for the dead, remember this scumbag had no respect for the people he indiscriminately killed and maimed in the name of his delusion (i.e. religion).

However, I disagree about him being made into dog food - that’s too good for him and not fair to dogs. What they should have done is carefully preserved and stuffed the body, and then put it in a public place for people to abuse, spit on, urinate on and whatever else they felt appropriate - that’s all the respect these people show, so that’s all we should show them !

  3. Rog, I absolutely agree that it was a mistake to allow Tanweer’s body to be taken to Pakistan for burial. I should also like to point out that we do not know how much of the corpse was left to bury. I have just learnt that all but the heads of suicide bombers tend to disintegrate after their bombs are detonated. (See pictures here but be warned, they are extremely gruesome.)
Bizarrely, some male suicide bombers apparently wrap their penises in fire-proof tin foil before detonation, to ensure that their genitals remains protected, and are in full working order when they reach paradise and begin the task of deflowering their 72 celestial virgins.
    See this report.

  4. I feel compelled to add that, having just read Muslims against Sharia’s blog page,a nd particularly the part where he states what the aims of his site are, that you are the first sane Muslim I think I’ve ever come across. As a committed atheist, I don’t agree with your religion any more than any other, but I agree totally with your views on Islam and wish you every luck in your efforts. The more Muslims that can get and agree with your message, the better and safer place our world will be. Good luck to you !

  5. I hope the idiot enjoyed his 72 virgins or what ever, I think he was in for a big disapointment.
