RELIGIOUSLY, Sarah Palin is George Bush unbuttoned. The latter manages much of the time to disguise the evangelical passion of his political mission.
Oh, really?
Palin possesses the same zeal, but lays it on the line for all to see. There is no artifice, no subtlety. It’s all right there. If this woman is right for the vice-presidency, then evangelical Christianity is even more pervasive and powerful than I feared.

So writes Richard Silverstein in the Guardian. Profiling the Christian zealot named as Republican John McCain’s running-mate, he points out that the Governor of Alaska has a tendency to run off at the mouth about GOD and JEEE-SUS! at the drop of a blueberry muffin.
Palin is particularly popular with the fundies because of her opposition to sex education in schools. Unless of course, it’s of the abstinence-only variety. Which might explain why she now has a 17-year-old daughter who’s irretrievably up the duff.

Cartoonist Daryl Cagle's take on Palin junior's pregnancy
After boasting that her 19-year-old son Track had enlisted in the military and was about to be deployed to Iraq, Palin said:
Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [US soldiers] out on a task that is from God. … That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.
Then, after listing the tasks she can do as governor to make the state a decent place to live in, she added:
None of that is gonna do any good if the people’s heart isn’t right with God. We can work together to make sure that God’s will be done here in Alaska.
Said Silverstein:
I can perfectly understand why evangelicals are overjoyed with her nomination. But I can’t understand why McCain was as well. Did he not think that statements like this might disturb non-evangelicals, not to mention non-Christians, of which, believe it or not, there are a few in this country?
He added:
Frankly, candidates like Palin are the Jews’ worst nightmare. The sentiments she expresses are part of a vestigial memory we internalise about what intolerance and bigotry sounds like. This certainly doesn’t rise to the level of flat-out anti-Semitism. But we know when we’re not wanted, and as non-believers we’re not wanted in the evangelical Christian worldview, except as enablers of Jesus’ final coming.

Other than that, Sarah Palin is no laughing matter–particularly if she does end up being our VP. She’s downright scary. It’s as if somebody took the worst of RRRW fundaloon “values” and put them all in one hideous package.

It’s a sobering thought that this seriously disturbed woman will, if McCain becomes president, be a heart attack away from having her finger on the nuclear button.

It’s just a shame the Republicans are pretty much gauranteed to win, then.

You know, I think there’s room for a competition here. Look at the picture of Palin and decide what she’s been startled by or is otherwise reacting to. I think she’s just seen the face of Jesus in the arse of a crapping yak. Or maybe the yak’s arse spoke to her and said, “Be not afraid, for I am the Lord thy God. Thou hast been chosen to ensure the Democrats win the November election.” Or maybe she’s just seen Cliff Richard walking out of a straight brothel in downtown Anchorage.

Palin and McCain are well practised at the contemptible game that now engages them. As I watched the hysterical acclamation given to the book censoring, hypocritical and massively incompetent Sarah Palin by the republicans at their convention I wondered at what I was witnessing. Why would any political Party want a woman like this as their next Vice President? To what deeps of cynicism and crude calculation must they descend to accept her in an attempt to retain power? They had to square the circle, abandon every supposed principle, entertain a woman whom, were she in any other Party, they would castigate and, given the chance, cast into the gutter. Contradictions are ignored, deceits overlooked and acclaimed as “real experience of small town life”, and certainty claimed in the face of overwhelming evidence that they are wrong. And all backed up by the smartest and most vicious public relations system on the planet. Where do we look for a parallel? Where else but the Christian literalists and their acceptance of a bible and a tyrannical Stone Age god that has provided practice in all that they need to accept Palin and the flaky would be President McCain.
Only another Mencken could do justice to this. “Religion is fundamentally opposed to everything I hold in veneration - courage, clear thinking, honesty, fairness, and, above all, love of truth.” H.L. Mencken.

I just do not understand the false charge of hippocracy between Palin’s stance on public school sex education and her daughter’s pregnancy. Of course what goes on in public schools is a PUBLIC matter, and her daughter’s pregnancy is a PRIVATE issue. Or are you saying that her daughter is too dumb to know that there is such a thing as birth control (pills, condoms, etc). Just like I would like religious morals out of the schools, I would also like gov’t social engineering out of schools as well. And I don’t think anyone’s going to argue that the best way to avoid an STD or pregnancy is to, wait for it…. not have sex. You want more? Talk to your parents, not a government teacher.

Do not be mislead - She is just a corrupt politician playing the God game, because responsibility falls on to God and not bad decisions by leaders (re. Bush/Blair - war on terror). God’s plan is the excuse for war and forced ideology in the USA and any other country lacking in weapons strength to stand up to them. Using God is the only languague the gullible, naive and stupid understand!
